The newly revealed Tesla Roadster is turning heads around the world with its outlandish claims of performance, futuristic technology and demonstrations that seem to challenge the limits of conventional electric vehicles.
Tesla Malaysia has started taking reservations for two versions of the car though, the most radical of the lot, called the Rocket, is still available by invitation only.
Tesla Malaysia has recorded RM203,000 in reservation payments for the Performance version and RM1.009 million for the Thrust model as of October 16, 2026. These figures are not the end selling prices of the cars. Instead, they are the total required to reserve a spot, with Tesla yet to reveal actual prices for purchase.

Tesla Roadster Performance Features Powerful Suction System
The Performance version is equipped with active aero elements and a multi-mode suction system that produce significant downforce. It employs electric fans and specially designed parts underneath the car to create a ground-effect system that helps keep the car securely against a surface.
Under the right conditions, the system is capable of creating enough suction to hold the Roadster upside down, according to Tesla. This unusual feature has attracted attention because it is beyond the conventional aerodynamic technology used on most production sports cars.

The Thrust version keeps the suction system, plus adds cold-gas thrusters mounted on the rear. They are intended to deliver extra propulsion, with Tesla claiming a zero-to-60-mph time of about 0.81 seconds for the configuration shown. Tesla Roadster Rocket Reserved for Elite Buyers
The most ambitious configuration in the lineup—and the one tied to the Roadster’s dramatic airborne demonstrations—is the Rocket version. Unlike the Performance and Thrust models, the Rocket features a full flight system with cold-gas thrusters that surround the vehicle to control lift and steering.
The Rocket is a single-seat vehicle and is available only by invitation. “This version is not approved for use on public roads, so this experimental capability should not be confused with features available for ordinary everyday driving,” Tesla says.
The Rocket is not something that you can book like you would book any other mode of transportation. Even those who want the most advanced version can’t simply go through the normal reservation process for it.
Reservation Payments Don’t Equal Car Prices
Tesla Malaysia’s reservation page may display eye-catching figures, but buyers need to know the difference between a reservation payment and the actual cost of getting the vehicle.
The total reservation payment for the Performance version is RM203,000 while the Thrust version is RM1.009 million. Tesla has yet to announce the final Malaysian selling prices and the eventual amounts may depend on the completed vehicle specifications, available options and purchase terms.
Reserving is reserving a spot in queue for a future vehicle configuration, not a completed vehicle purchase. Prospective buyers should consult the official reservation terms prior to making any payment to Tesla.
When does the new Tesla Roadster get released?
The next-gen Roadster has been on people’s radar for years with its development timeline shifting a couple of times since the vehicle was first presented as a concept in 2017. Tesla is now looking at production in 2028, but the final delivery schedule and full production specs are yet to be confirmed.
The new Roadster exemplifies Tesla’s desire to combine electric performance with aerospace-inspired technology. But its distinctive features, high reservation payments and restrictions on the Rocket version make the question of practical availability and real-world usage a serious one.
The big takeaway here is that Tesla’s viral Roadster isn’t just another electric sports car. Its suction technology, propulsion systems and experimental flight capabilities make it a strange addition to the automotive conversation but the Rocket model remains out of reach for ordinary buyers and the final prices of all three versions are yet to be confirmed.
