Dr. Innocent Eteng, the Head of Service for Cross River State, has said that Governor Bassey Otu’s government will put the national minimum wage into effect.
The head of service told reporters this on Tuesday in Calabar.
He also said that the state government followed the deal with organised labour and paid the national minimum wage.
Eteng said shortly after announcing the activities for the ongoing Civil/Public Service Day celebration that the Otu government had gladly followed the agreement’s minimum requirements.
He said, “His Excellency has kindly agreed to the N70,000 minimum wage, which we have put into effect as stated in the agreement.”
“People who say the governor hasn’t put the minimum wage into effect are ignorant and naive.”

He went on to say, “I’m giving you information that is bankable and can be taken to the bank.”
Eteng said that the Otu administration put the national minimum wage into effect after reaching a deal with organised labour. “I am arguing that the minimum wage has been put into place across the state and at all levels.
He said, “So praise the governor, His Excellency, for doing that.” The HOS listed the activities for the Civil Service/Public Service lecture day, which included a city walk by civil servants, a public lecture, an award of honour to worthy workers at the UJ Esuene Stadium, a keynote speech by the Secretary to the State Government, and a lecture by Rev. Fr. Bob Etta.
