Burna Boy, a world-famous singer, won the Album of the Year award for his new album, No Sign of Weakness.

He also shared the award for Best African Collaboration with Shallipopi, a fellow Nigerian who is quickly rising to fame.

Shallipopi won the Song of the Year award for his hit tune Laho, which went viral on social media.

The week-long event brought together music professionals from all around Africa and the diaspora as judges.

It ended with a ceremony where Nigeria’s present musical talent was on full show.

Rema won three prizes that night: Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African Artiste in RnB and Soul.

Yemi Alade, who won Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series, or Documentary for her song “You Are” from the animated series Iyanu, and veteran rapper Phyno, who won Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop, were also among the Nigerian winners.

The awards also honoured up-and-coming artists.

Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artist of the Year, and Chella was named African Fans’ Favourite.

Even though Nigerian stars were the most famous, the ceremony honoured talent from all throughout Africa.

Bakhaw Dioum from Senegal received Songwriter of the Year, and DJ Moh Green from Algeria won DJ of the Year, beating out some well-known South African DJs.

Wendy Shay from Ghana won Best Female Artiste in West Africa, Nontokozo Mkhize from South Africa got Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa, and Juma Jux from Tanzania won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa.

The success of Nigerian singers shows that Afrobeats is still popular around the world.

Burna Boy has been a key character in this movement since it took off, and he is still one of its most well-known ambassadors.
